About Us

Looking at the world
inside a watch.

1010 WatchClub creates articles and films for people curious about vintage watches and the world of watchmaking. We follow details from the proportions of a dial to the architecture of a movement. That curiosity might lead us to a drawing of an old calibre or a design decision made in a workshop. We want to understand how an object taking up just a few centimetres on the wrist can hold so much history, work and human experience.

Our articles explore design history, the workings of movements, originality and restoration. We enjoy explaining why a technical detail matters in everyday language. Understanding an escapement’s motion and reading a dial changed by the years are part of the same curiosity. We read the sources, distinguish documented information from our own interpretation and share our references so readers can follow the research. Questions that remain open have a place in the story, too.

In our films, that curiosity comes to life through characters and movement. A watch designed for the depths of the sea spending its days at a desk, or a movement’s history on the way to the Moon: both are stories worth telling. Alongside the technical knowledge, there is room for people and a little humour. At the end of an article or film, we hope to leave you with a small detail that makes you look at the watch on your wrist again.

What matters in our stories.

Make the sources visible

We share the sources behind our writing and distinguish documented facts from editorial interpretation.

Make the mechanics clear

We explain how movements work in natural language, preserving the meaning of the details.

Make room for people

The lives of those who design, make and wear watches belong in the story.
